Overview

Senior Network Engineer UK&I

Location: HQ, Runcorn, Liverpool                   

Reporting to: Network Manager UK&I

 

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of Swissport’s network infrastructure in the UK&I.

This role reports directly to the Network Manager UK&I and works closely with the Swissport Global Network Team, as well as third-party service providers.

The Network Support Engineer will ensure the smooth operation of Swissport’s network infrastructure across the UK&I, including LANs, WANs, WLANs, and internet connections. The role will also involve visiting Swissport locations to troubleshoot, install, and maintain network systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Network Manager in managing and overseeing network operations, including troubleshooting network issues, upgrades, optimizing performance, and ensuring high availability.
  • Collaborate with other departments to assess networking needs and develop solutions to meet business objectives.
  • Maintain documentation of network topologies, configurations, procedures, etc.
  • Provide technical advisory and recommendations in solution design, development, and system integration.
  • Monitor network usage (WAN, LAN, WLAN) and proactively recommend improvements.
  • Monitor network traffic and performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
  • Drive continual improvement and BAU of the network infrastructure.
  • Handle incidents, problems, service requests, and changes related to IT services and processes, ensuring high customer satisfaction.
  • Liaise with and support the Global Network Team in implementing global networking standards in UK&I.
  • Collaborate with team members to drive network security initiatives.
  • Coordinate with outsourced vendors delivering managed services and manage relationships with vendors and service providers to procure networking equipment, services, and support.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in the networking field.
  • Troubleshoot and deploy best practice Wi-Fi deployments
  • Participate in on-call rota for critical network faults.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • A self-starter with high levels of self-motivation, energy, and initiative.
  • Strong ‘CAN DO’ attitude, fostering confidence, respect, and support from colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in routing, switching, and firewall administration (Cisco, Meraki, Cato, and other industry-standard tools highly desirable).
  • Experience managing a large, complex, multisite network.
  • Solid knowledge of secure network infrastructure, including Anti-DDoS, Security Vulnerabilities Scanners, IDS/IPS, WAF, Secure MTA, Load Balancers, Internet Proxy, and DNS hosting.
  • Expert understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, and LAN/WAN architecture.
  • Familiarity with industry trends, such as SASE.
  • Solid knowledge of Wi-Fi technologies, including design, deployment, and troubleshooting of enterprise-grade wireless networks. Familiarity with Wi-Fi standards (e.g., IEEE 802.11ac/ax), security protocols (WPA3, 802.1X), and wireless access point configuration.
  • Strong knowledge of network security solutions such as Network Access Control (ISE preferable), ZTNA (CATO preferable), and Cisco Meraki.
  • Valid CCNA/CCNP certification (or equivalent) required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively to all levels of the business.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, multi-cultural, matrix organization.
  • Willingness to travel to all Swissport UK&I locations.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours as necessary.
  • Fluent command of both oral and written English (corporate language).
